Eve's club boosts NGOs

Eve's Club recently donated goods worth just under P70 000 to nine none profit organisations assisting the underprivileged and suffering at the Gaborone Sun recently.

Eve's Club, established 20 years ago, has about 20 members consisting of working women and housewives most of whom have contributed to the club since it's beginning.

Pushpa Ramesh, the club's Chairlady said they had donated close to one million Pula to various NGOs and charitable organisations and expressed her gratitude to the business community for their generosity towards their fund raising events.

She said the beneficiaries of the club's donations had something in common with the club as they were all practising the art of giving. “Everyone of our guests present here who are the recipients of our donations have been practising this art.

“Yo have given your valuable time, some of you have dedicated your career and profession by leading and running your respective organisations that help and support physically and socially challenged people of Botswana,” said Ramesh.

Ramesh further said this year they had raised funds through their annual festival, Aahar as well as by running a food stall at the North Side school fair. “The result of the wonderful team work of all the members is why we are able to donate a good sum of close to P70 000 today, to all your worthy organisations,” she said.

Delighted Sister Nalini of Pabalelong Hospice, one of the beneficiaries, said EC of Eve's club stood for earth's core. “The earth never stops giving, she gives double, triple or hundred fold. I'm so happy I'm among great mothers of the core of the earth who are so generous, kind and gentle and tender like the mother earth.

“Last year we were previledged to receive a computer, a colour printer and 20 blankets and 10 chairs from the Eve's Club- home of love and care.”

It wasn't the first time Lifeline had been assisted by the club either. Vivian Gunda said they had also received a computer and printer from the EC last year. “We are very thankful. We know that you go out of your way to mobilise resources for us and at times spend your personal money.

“We know that it is not easy to mobilise resources, especially in Botswana. We've been classified as a middle income country with a small corporate establishment most of whose headquaters are based in other countries which makes it even more difficult to get assistance from them.”

Emily Ruhukwa of Kagisano Women's Shelter, an organisation dealing with gender based violence, counselling services and shelter for women unable to stay in their homes due to violence, was also grateful. She said gender based violence wasn't getting the prominence that it deserved even though it had far reaching repercussions and added that they were grateful that the club had chosen them as a beneficiary. “It is your support and that of others that sustains us in doing the work that we do,” she said.

Dinaletsana, launched a year ago, was also among the beneficiaries. The centre for assessment and treatment for children with autism and neuro developmental issues and attention difficulties had also been assisted before with start up capital.

The organisation's representative, Freda... said in May 2010 they had received office equipment worth P10 000 which helped set up office and secure initial premises.

The beneficiaries also included Holy Cross Hospice, Reneetswe Happy Home Centre, Bagodi ba rona, Tsogang Trust, Botswana Deaf Society and the Hajee Goolam Mustafa Children's Home.
